Introductory school-based lessons in groups of 3  - $10 per student

Learning as a group of 3 creates camaraderie and accelerates your learning as you encourage and spur one another onward.

  • School-based tuition in 8 Dunedin schools
  • 30 - 35 minute lessons for 30 weeks (terms 1-4).
  • Trumpets and trombones can be hired
  • Teaching materials will be provided on loan
  • After two terms of tuition students will be introduced to ensemble playing.

Introductory after school lessons in groups of 3 - $10 per student

The group approach for the first 12 months suits the social learning habits of young learners. You can expect a natural sense of modelling from learner-to-learner.

  • After school programme located at the University of Otago College of Education
  • 35 - 40 minute lessons for 30 weeks (terms 1-4).
  • Trumpets and trombones can be hired
  • Teaching materials will be provided on loan
  • After two terms of tuition students will be introduced to ensemble playing.

Individual lessons for students with 2 to 4 years experience - $15 each

After 12 months of learning most students have begun to develop with individual traits and strengths. These are best catered for individual lessons of up to 35 minutes. 

  • Individual lessons will be provided at a time negotiated with your family (either in or after school time).
  • From Year 3 onwards, we expect you to move from a p (plastic) instrument to a brass instrument.  
  • Participation in ABRSM exam programme will be a usual expectation, which carries a cost of approximately $150 (not including accompanist fees)
  • Families may incur tuition materials costs.
  • Rewarding ensemble experiences will be required three times per term 

Advanced brass programme - $50 per lesson 

Regular tuition or project tuition (e.g. solo or ensemble event preparation) based at the University of Otago College of Education.

  • Suitable for individual students at advanced level (above Grade V or equivalent).
  • Experienced adult players welcome
  • 50 minutes lessons, with a minimum enrolment of 5 weeks

Combo of online, face-to-face and ensemble tuition - $20 per lesson

The higher level of expectation fostered in All Brass Class may be of interest to students learning in other environments, or those requiring additional motivation or specialist support.

  • Mix of online (virtual) lessons, face to face tuition and ensemble workshops based at University of Otago College of Education.
  • Online lessons will be 35 minutes, with a minimum of one 60 minute face-to-face lesson per term at $40.
  • Open to Otago and Southland students

Ensemble option at the University of Otago - $10 per session

  • 6 to 9 sessions scheduled per year, scheduled on Thursday afternoons
  • This strand is mainly intended for All Brass Class students. However, the ensemble only strand may suit students learning in other environments.
  • Repertoire will be a mix of classical, band and contemporary popular music

Trumpet Hire - $5 per week


Trombone hire - $5 per week
